MB Andrews was born and raised in New York City.
Early life in the city cultivated a lifelong passion for the arts – a passion she knew she would pursue well beyond her childhood years. MB found inspiration in dancing, fashion, and city life. Her parents recognized her eagerness to learn and provided every opportunity to further her exploration in the world of culture and fine art. In her early adult life MB invested her time earning a degree from Manhattan’s Fashion Institute of Technology. She used this fine art education to secure a position on 7th Avenue in the heart of the fashion industry. This part of her journey honed her skills and ignited her passion for drawing, draping and designing. Her experiences in New York City created the foundation of a lifelong career in the exploration and perpetuation of the fine arts.
“[her] style enables her to capture the essence of human form without being tied down by realistic values…[the students] think of art as realism and she opens their minds.”
– Cornel Rubino
Fine Art Practice
MB’s work is created in the moment and most often as a direct response to live studio figure models. It is simultaneously fluid in its expression and masterful in its blended use of medium. MB is a process based creator. She finds cadence in laying down layer upon layer of medium to indicate gesture, form, and – ultimately – expression. In the moments of creation she surrounds herself with graphite, conte, ink and oil – all within an arms reach for inclusion at any time during the making process. Her work is technically figurative yet emotionally expressive as she frees herself from the tepid vernacular of realism and transcends into capturing the essence of the model standing before her.
Her most recent work is monumental in scale – a reference to her childhood days in New York City where large scale art abounds- she imagines each piece bringing life to large walls in both homes and public spaces. MB’s work has been widely acquired, and hangs in private homes, boardrooms and commercial lobbies throughout the country.
